Save Chuck!

nerdsNBC’s “Chuck” is on the cusp: It may or may not be renewed for a third season.

This is a travesty. “Chuck” is one of my favorite shows. Chuck, the star of the show, is a computer nerd who works at Buy More (think Best Buy) and heads up the Nerd Herd (think Geek Squad). Until a former friend who now works for the CIA sends him an encoded e-mail with all of the world’s spy secrets. The e-mail (and computer) was destroyed; now those secrets are in Chuck’s head.

The show is quirky, it’s quippy, it’s nerdy and it’s actiony. I don’t understand why more people aren’t watching. The season finale is Monday at 7 p.m. CST.

When other shows have been threatened with cancellation, fans have jumped in to try to rescue them. Lately, that has involved sending food to the network powers that be. For “Veronica Mars” it was Mars Bars. For “Jericho” it was peanuts — and it worked. For “Chuck” it’s Nerds. As creater Josh Schwartz told The New York Times:

I would ask our fans to send Nerds. The candy. Not actual nerds that they can find on the street. Don’t go to MIT, put them in a box, send that over to Burbank.

How can you not love this show?

NBC’s world headquarters, of course, is 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10112.
